We exchange the computer for a cup of coffee – a summary of the previous computer classes

Due to the summer break, the participants of the “E-senior 2” project no.: 2022-1-PL01-ESC30-SOL-000067331 spent the last meeting before the holidays not in front of computers – but over coffee!

On June 27, all seniors attending computer classes in Opole met together to summarize the activities so far, show off the skills acquired so far, share their opinion on the meetings and suggest what they would like to learn.

For some of the participants it was the last meeting as they had completed the entire course within the project. Therefore, on that day they received certificates of completion of a series of computer classes as part of the European Solidarity Corps program.

The meeting was extremely fruitful both for the organizers of the project and its participants. Opinions on previous meetings will allow you to adjust the method and subject of classes to the participants, and thanks to the loose form of the meeting, seniors had the opportunity to get to know each other better and integrate, which will certainly have a positive impact on the atmosphere during classes after the holiday break.

Lecture on “The life of bees and their importance for the entire planet” in Przedszkole Publiczne im. Winnie the Pooh in Sarnów

Bees have inhabited our planet for a very long time and still play a huge role in the plant and animal world around us. They produce honey, which they willingly share with people. However, the importance of bees is very great. Albert Einstein once said that if the bees disappeared, humanity would live a maximum of 4 more years.

On June 12, 2023. the youngest participants of the European Solidarity Corps project “Young at heart, but great at eco-heart” project no.: 2022-3-PL01-ESC30-SOL-000097905 attending the Public Kindergarten Winnie the Pooh in Sarnów from the Tigers I and Tigers II group had the opportunity to participate in a very interesting and interesting lecture about bees and their importance for the entire planet. The lecture began with the answer to several basic questions, i.e.:

– who is a beekeeper?

– what is a hive?

– what do bees need in nature?

– what makes a bee family?

– what is the importance of bees for the whole planet?

– why should we care for them?

– how do we obtain bee honey?

The lecturer, Mrs. Magda – a pre-school education teacher, told the preschoolers the history of honey hunting, explained what it is and how honey is produced and what types of honey there are. During the speech, she also drew attention to the high properties of honeycomb, which strengthens the gums and protects the teeth. The lecture was very interesting and interesting. Educational film “We take care of bees – the life of a bee family” encouraged children to get to know bees and their importance for the planet.

At the end of the lesson, each of the preschoolers made a flying bee. During the workshops, children used natural resources. We make sure that items such as glues, markers and crayons are environmentally friendly.

Mobility of seniors to Sweden

On May 28 – June 2, 2023, group mobility to Sweden took place as part of the “Senior open to the world” project No. 2022-1-PL01-KA122-ADU-000071920. During six days, Polish seniors had the opportunity to see what the life of the elderly in Sweden looks like, take a large dose of exercise and visit some interesting places.

The leitmotif of the mobility was physical activity, which is why the participants spent their stay in Malmö very actively. Every day, seniors participated in sports activities organized by municipal senior centers. Every day they had the opportunity to take part in other physical activities, e.g. stretching, improving body balance or aerobic exercises. In addition to taking care of their physical health, our seniors had the opportunity to visit four out of ten municipal senior centers, where they received a lot of information on the life of pensioners in Sweden every day from people working there and from the seniors themselves visiting these places.

During the six days of mobility, Polish seniors also had the opportunity to get to know the Swedish city of Malmö and visit Danish Copenhagen. All participants were extremely pleased with the adventure they had and were happy to boast about their opinions on mobility.

This mobility was a great dose of physical activity for everyone and an unforgettable experience that will always remain in the memories of our participants.

Reports from each day of the seniors’ stay in Sweden can be seen on the project website.

Project (Im)perfectly perfect

The project “(Im)perfectly perfect” No. 2022-3-PL01-ESC30-SOL-000102974 is focused on activities aimed at combating the phenomenon of body shaming and supporting people struggling with overweight. We want young people struggling with such problems to change their attitude towards themselves and love their body just as it is. The project will include meetings aimed at changing people’s attitudes towards the human body and how it should look like.

The project combines support, cooperation and understanding for others. Thus, the basis of the project is Solidarity in its broadest sense. It is addressed mainly to young people who have had unpleasant experiences with the lack of acceptance of their bodies. We want to start the fight against this unpleasant phenomenon by educating young people through meetings with: a psychologist, dietitian and trainer, as well as through sports and culinary workshops.

At the end of the project, a guide will be created combining the knowledge about body shaiming and body positive passed on during the meetings, as well as useful tips on how to accept and love your body.

The result of the project will also be a calendar for 2024 containing healthy recipes for dishes prepared by participants during culinary workshops. Two recipes will be attached to each month.

May meadow, i.e. handicraft workshops in the Public Kindergarten. Winnie the Pooh in Sarnów

At the end of May, preschoolers attending the Public Kindergarten named after Winnie the Pooh in Sarnów took part in art workshops organized as part of the project “Little with age, but big with eco-heart!” project number: 2022-3-PL01-ESC30-SOL-000097905.

The workshop was led by a pre-school teacher, Mrs. Magdalena S. The classes began with listening to a story beginning with the words:
“In the May meadow grow multi-colored flowers, fragrant poppies, lilies of the valley, violets and chamomiles … “.

And with this accent, preschoolers started an ecological workshop entitled “May Meadow”. During the classes, children independently made beautiful works – simple and creative, for which they used recycled materials. Artistic and technical works made by two groups of “Tigers” wonderfully decorated the interior of the kindergarten’s corridor.

Form for years

Sports activities carried out as part of the project “Young in spirit” No. 2022-2-PL01-ESC30-SOL-000091172 as always every other Wednesday at 5.30 pm at ul. Niemodlińska 40 in the Construction School Complex are very popular. Attendance does not decrease, and seniors are more and more eager for physical activity.

On June 14, there was a lot of movement and jumping, and our participants could see that they are great at any type of exercise. We are very happy that the group is getting more and more advanced!

But calmly, we will slow down soon, the weather is good and reminds us that the holidays are coming soon, and what follows? Summer break. That’s why we train in June and then return to the gym in September.

Of course, we encourage all participants to be active also during the summer break, and conversations with them show that this will be the case! Our seniors are in shape not for the summer but for years.

We develop mobile skills

June classes with our seniors participating in the project “E-Senior 2” No.: 2022-1-PL01-ESC30-SOL-000067331 are focused mainly on working with the phone. Seniors want to develop their smartphone skills and ask a lot of questions about using it.

In addition to solving everyday problems of seniors related to using the phone, we focused on installing helpful applications. One of them is “when he arrives”. Many of our seniors use photos of timetables taken by them at specific stops. Thanks to the application, they can view all timetables of each stop in one convenient place, and additionally they can check where a given bus is currently located. Another application that seniors liked is the “storm monitor”, which informs us about impending rainfall or storms.

During the classes, the participants also learned how to share their location with a loved one, if, for example, they could not find it in a foreign city. All seniors admitted that this option is very useful, because often talking on the phone we cannot explain where we are. By sharing our exact location, we do not have to explain anything, and the person to whom our location will be shared knows exactly where we are at the moment.

Mobility in Wisła under the sign of tolerance

On May 12-16, a mobility of a group of students from Poland and Ukraine to the Wisław took place as part of the main point of the project “What do we know about tolerance” No. 2022-1-PL01-KA152-YOU-000067324.

During their stay, project participants took part in numerous workshops devoted to the subject of tolerance, integration, sports and artistic activities. They also had the opportunity to visit the Wisła and the nearby mountain trails.

Five days spent together in a new group is certainly a great opportunity to get to know the group better. This was also facilitated by workshops focusing on cultural exchange and looking at the world from the perspective of one’s close neighbor. It turned out that we have a lot in common, and the elements that distinguish us are not an obstacle in accepting the other person, but additional advantages that make them unique.

In these difficult times in which our colleagues from Ukraine had to live, it was good to leave and forget everything for a moment. We could focus on the here and now. Thanks to the project, young people could strengthen the skills of tolerance and openness to other people, focus on their emotions and nurture self-confidence by noticing their advantages. Each day the positive atmosphere strengthened, which is extremely important in the integration process.

The trip to Wisła was certainly an incredible adventure for both groups and a nice break from everyday life. As a result of the activities carried out during the project, the participants will be more tolerant, willing to understand and accept the differences that occur, among others, in between people of different nationalities.

We hope that good memories will remain with the participants participating in the project for a long time.

A detailed description of each of the 5 days of stay in Wisła can be found on the project website.

Recycling turtle, i.e. eco handicraft workshops

On the occasion of the International Turtle Day, preschoolers from the Private Nursery and Kindergarten “Świat Dziecka” in Siewierz participated in ecological handicraft workshops. During the classes, the children made turtles. To make the turtles, we needed: waste paper, recycled materials, i.e. a plastic cup that was transformed into a turtle shell, printing scraps, cardboard, i.e. objects that we gave a second life. Each turtle made was unique and unrepeatable. These types of activities are a great opportunity to promote ecology among children.

The “Recycling turtle” handicraft workshop was organized as part of the project “Little with age, but big with eco-heart!” project no.: 2022-3-PL01-ESC30-SOL-000097905.

World Bee Day in the Private Nursery and Kindergarten “Świat Dziecka” in Siewierz

World Bee Day celebrated on May 20, 2023. it is an opportunity to remind you how important the work of bees is in the environment, as well as to indicate the role that these industrious insects play in obtaining food. It is also an excuse to think about what we can do to protect these useful insects.

On that day, in the Non-Public Nursery and Kindergarten “Świat Dziecka” in Siewierz, a lecture on beekeeping was held for children from the group: Smurfs, Leprechauns and Kropeczki. The lecturer Mrs. Milena presented the youngest participants of the project “Little with age, but big with eco-heart!” project number: 2022-3-PL01-ESC30-SOL-000097905 the importance of bees for the environment, for people, for the entire planet. During the lecture, she also raised the issue of protecting bee friends and preventing the increasingly serious problem of their extinction.

In order to familiarize children with the secrets and curiosities related to the life of bees and honey production, preschoolers visited the educational and nature path in the City Park in Siewierz. There they saw entomological cabinets with specimens of insects, including various species of bees.

The youngest also made creative art works of bee motifs on their own. They consolidated the acquired knowledge during games, fun and quizzes about bees.
At the end, the children could taste the honey. The day was busy and interesting for everyone, and the effects can be seen in the gallery.
