Starting from October 10, the Foundation for SMART education, together with the Technical Secondary School No. 4 Transport at CKZiU in Sosnowiec, is implementing a project entitled: “Colors of Life”, which was created on the initiative of students of the technical school.
The aim of the project is, among others:
– sensitizing young people to the needs of others,
-increasing knowledge about various diseases that affect or threaten young people if they do not take care of their health in advance.

The month of January is the time devoted to obesity, the main color is white. This month, students of the Technical School no. 4 organized a “white week”, that is, they came to school dressed in white. Moreover, from the information gathered with the tutor, they created a school newspaper showing the problem.

January – the month of obesity as part of the “Colors of Life” project

January – the month of obesity under the project “Colors of Life” – 2021-1-PL01-ESC30-SOL-000036535 financed by the European Solidarity Corps.
Obesity was considered a disease more than 50 years ago. The World Health Organization (WHO) entered it on the International List of Diseases and Health Problems (the so-called ICD10 classification) under the code E66. In Poland, this list has been in force since 1996 and every doctor has it in his desk. When making a diagnosis for a patient, he must enter the appropriate disease code on the card. Obesity starts with being overweight. That is why specialists call it pre-obesity. Overweight is a state in which the body provides the body with much more energy than it needs for proper functioning, including basic metabolism, heat production and physical activity.

Exit to the Silesian Philharmonic from the “E-Senior” project

On January 9, our seniors from the “E-Senior” project went on a little trip. During one of the December computer classes, the seniors were supposed to find a place where they would like to go, and then find the repertoire and favorite spectacle. It was the Silesian Philharmonic and a Christmas carol concert, the seniors themselves found information and details about the tickets. Thanks to such activities, we show our seniors how to navigate the Internet, what activities they can carry out, where to look for information, but also what opportunities they have and what they gain thanks to using the Internet.
This concert at the Silesian Philharmonic reminded seniors of the not so long ago celebrated Christmas. All this thanks to Henryk Jan Bator – a composer and organist, who, together with the Choir of the Silesian Philharmonic under the baton of Jarosław Wolanin, took them into the world of the most beautiful Christmas carols and pastorals.

Christmas workshops on the “E-Senior” project

The period leading up to Christmas is one
of the most beautiful of the year. A mandatory element of these holidays are ornaments and decorations, therefore as part of the project
“E-Senior” was carried out on December 17, 2021. the last Christmas workshop this year.

The workshop participants used their knowledge and found guides and tips on how to decorate Christmas wreaths on the Internet. Seniors showed great imagination and creativity creating beautiful and fragrant Christmas wreaths. They decorated them with pine cones, chestnuts, acorns, nuts, baubles and other tinsel. After the workshops, each participant could take home a handmade Christmas wreath.

Workshops – AIDS prevention from the “Colors of life” project

On December 16, workshops were held – Prophylaxis of AIDS.
During the 90-minute workshop, the youth were acquainted with the topic of preventing the spread of HIV and AIDS.

Due to the subject matter, the “Spider Web” exercise was used, which, on the one hand, allowed for team integration, relaxation of tension caused by the new situation (workshops, trainer) and the triggering of workshop processes.
The exercise itself makes it possible to observe the course of social interactions and the spread of the “invisible” – in this case the virus.
Students had the opportunity to test their assertiveness (sales tasks carried out in pairs) and learn techniques to strengthen it. Assertiveness, in addition to maintaining protective measures (sanitation, disinfection, contraception), is a key feature in the prevention of infectious diseases.

Theoretical information was given during the discussion on the problem of HIV.
As part of the summary, scenes were played on the following topics:

  1. Visit to a tattoo studio
  2. To arrange an HIV test in a laboratory or to order a test to be performed at home
  3. Interview your partner about HIV testing before having sexual intercourse

The implementation of the scenes made it possible to consolidate and use the acquired knowledge (how to take care of your safety in various contacts – beauty salons, tattooing, sex contacts).
A very important element was the performance of the situation related to the test (how and where can it be checked? What to do next? Where to look for help?).
The final element was the game “Thank you, BINGO!”, In which students looked for resources in their peer group (who can listen? Who can support? Who can encourage?, Who can amuse? Etc.). Thanks to this, each student left the classes not only with the database of facts about the HIV virus, but also with the awareness that in case of problems there are people whom they can count on.
The workshop was part of the Colors of Life project – financed by the European Solidarity Corps.
