In a healthy body there is a healthy spirit

On March 29, the next classes of the project “Young in Spirit” No. 2022-2-PL01-ESC30-SOL-000091172 took place.

Unfortunately, the weather aura is not yet conducive to outdoor exercises, but our seniors undoubtedly already have spring in their souls. You can see that the participants are having fun during the classes, and the smile never leaves their faces.

With each class, seniors make new acquaintances and strengthen friendships. Physical effort and group meetings definitely benefit them and affect their well-being.

We are glad that we can contribute to improving the condition and mood of project participants.

We get to know Google Maps

The core group of participants in the “E-Senior 2” project No. 2022-1-PL01-ESC30-SOL-000067331 find themselves more and more efficiently in the virtual world. Seniors are satisfied with the skills they have acquired so far and are eager to learn something new.

During the classes on March 29, together with the participants, we got acquainted with Google Maps. We got to know all the features of this application. From mapping out a route on how to get to the bus and finding a stop, to watching local restaurants on the map. Then we learned how to share the route with someone, e.g. on the phone. Seniors admitted that it is very useful in a new place, when we do not know the city, and we need to get to a given place or want to check what interesting things can be visited in a given area. P

articipants feel more and more confident with the knowledge they receive in class. They want to travel and feel more and more independent, which we are extremely happy about.

Easter eco-baskets

On March 30, 2023, a group of Smurfs, Leprechauns and Kropeczek from the Non-Public Nursery and Kindergarten “Świat Dziecka” in Siewierz participated in handicraft workshops. This time, preschoolers prepared Easter eco-baskets. The youngest showed great ingenuity and commitment. To make the baskets, the children used plastic PET bottles and string, giving these items a second life. They decorated the baskets with tissue paper, colored paper and styrofoam eggs.

The work was not easy at all, the task was difficult and demanding cooperation. From under the talented hands of preschoolers, colorful eco-baskets for Easter began to appear.

Handicraft workshops were organized as part of the European Solidarity Corps program entitled “Little with age, but big with eco-heart!” project number: 2022-3-PL01-ESC30-SOL-000097905.

Ukrainian melodies

The next classes of the project “What do we know about tolerance” No. 2022-1-PL01-KA152-YOU-000067324 implemented as part of the Erasmus+ program took on a musical character.

The participants of the project met again with the professor and students from Ukraine, who played the role of lecturers and with great commitment passed on more interesting facts about their country. The conducted classes were devoted to a part of Ukrainian culture, i.e. music. The students eagerly told the youth about solemn Ukrainian songs, as well as about the songs that today’s Ukrainian youth listens to, and about songs that are timeless for them. Each story was accompanied, of course, by listening to a given song by everyone.

The participants enjoyed the music classes very much, and some of them, leaving the room, continued to hum the Ukrainian melody they had heard earlier.

Spring art workshops in the Public Kindergarten. Winnie the Pooh in Sarnów

On the occasion of the first day of spring, children in the Public Kindergarten named after Winnie the Pooh in Sarnów participated in spring workshops organized as part of the project: “Little with age, but big with eco-heart!” project number: 2022-3-PL01-ESC30-SOL-000097905.

The theme of the workshop was the first harbingers of spring. The youngest participants of the project, under the watchful eye of Mrs. Agnieszka, independently made artistic works on which one could notice: storks, white cats on the willow, a meadow, the sun, flowers, i.e. the first signs of spring. Preschoolers made every effort to make the hand-made harbingers of spring beautiful.

School supplies used during the workshops were purchased by the Foundation for Education – SMART.

Movement is in fashion regardless of age

Classes carried out as part of the project “Young in spirit” No. 2022-2-PL01-ESC30-SOL-000091172 are very popular among seniors. We see new faces in class all the time. Opole seniors know that movement is health, which is why they effectively encourage their peers to exercise.

The last classes were devoted to stretching to make seniors aware of how to perform exercises that improve body posture. Members of the initiative group of the project, who act as trainers, also focused on improving the mobility of the legs from the hips to the feet in seniors. Expanding the participants’ range of motion and warming up their legs is not accidental. It’s high time to get your legs used to spring walks and movement outside.

We hope that the next classes will be accompanied by beautiful weather to finally be able to practice outdoors!

Secure online shopping

Together with seniors, we remain on the topic of online shopping, however, we constantly raise the bar of knowledge of our participants, which is why during the last classes we also took a closer look at the safety of these purchases. We introduced the participants to one of the most popular shopping platforms. Issues such as:

  • create an account
  • searching for specific offers
  • using filters on the site
  • searching for opinions about the product and the seller
  • what are the payment options
  • what are the shipping options
  • security on the platform

Seniors were satisfied with the opportunities offered by the shopping platform and with the information obtained about safety while shopping.

The classes are carried out as part of the “E-Senior 2” project no. 2022-1-PL01-ESC30-SOL-000067331.

We’re creating a cookbook

As a summary of the project, we are creating a culinary book in which all the recipes for dishes prepared by the participants of the “World on a plate” project No. 2021-2-PL01-ESC30-SOL-000040182 will be collected.

In addition to the recipes, the book will contain a few sentences of introduction and participants’ opinions about the project. A photo of the dish prepared by seniors will be added to each recipe. There will also be photos of our participants cooking together, so that they can return to the memories related to the project with a smile on their faces looking at the photos.

There will also be an additional special recipe. If you want to know more, be sure to follow our website and social media.

Cookbook coming soon!

An Asian feast at the end of the project

On Friday, February 24, 2023, the last culinary workshops organized as part of the “World on a Plate” project, project no. 2021-2-PL01-ESC30-SOL000040182, took place.

On this day, Chinese cuisine dishes conquered the hearts of seniors.

During the classes, seniors prepared delicious dishes:

  • chinese noodles with vegetables,
  • chicken breast in sweet and sour sauce.

A great lover of Asian cuisine, Mrs. Mariola, told us about the tradition, culture and secrets of preparing Chinese dishes.

A great surprise was the visit of a Polish Radio Katowice reporter to the culinary workshops, who conducted an interview with the representative of the Foundation’s board, Mrs. Ewa Bartosińska, and with seniors.

On that day, certificates of completion of the “World on a Plate” project organized by the European Solidarity Corps were also presented. During the meeting, the project was summed up and the seniors shared their impressions of the meetings. Even tears of joy flowed from the emotion.

The wonderful atmosphere did not leave the participants until the end of the classes. Participation in the project will undoubtedly be remembered by seniors for a very long time.

Art therapy classes “What’s playing in your heart?”

As part of the project “What’s playing in your heart?” No. – 2022-2-PL01-ESC30-SOL-000090896 On February 17, we conducted classes with a psychologist for our participants.

Because each of us has emotions, each of us experiences, therefore each of us deserves to learn to “handle” them well. This was also the purpose of the classes, so that each of our participants could look at their emotions in a relaxed way for a moment and learn to feel them.

We started the class by quieting our minds. After a whole week of living on the run with slightly dimmed lights, together with the teacher, we tried to relax our bodies, feel them in a different way, to be able to look at them from a new, better side.

In the next stage of the classes, using art therapy techniques, the participants tried to express their emotions in words, and then transferred them to paper in the form of drawings. Really interesting works! Everyone presented their emotions in an individual way.

The smile on the faces of the participants is what we always want to see, and that’s how it was after these classes! See you on the next one 🙂
