Spanish cuisine or a culinary trip to Mexico

On Friday, September 16, 2022, culinary workshops devoted to Mexican cuisine took place. The workshops are organized as part of the project “The world on a plate” – 2021-2- PL01-ESC30-SOL-000040182.

However, before the participants started to prepare the dishes, Mrs. Mariola, the teacher, introduced the seniors to the traditions and culture of Mexican cuisine. Exotic Mexican cuisine is one of the most interesting cuisines in the world. It is full of colors, flavors and aromas. A special feature of traditional Mexican cuisine is the blend of ingredients, recipes and cooking methods by Native Americans and Spanish conquerors.

The basic foods used in Mexican cuisine for savory dishes include legumes (including beans), peppers (both hot and mild) and corn.

At the workshop, we found out how to easily and quickly prepare:

  • QUESADILLA WITH SWEET FRUIT,
  • BURRITO or TACO DE HARINA,
  • GUACAMOLE – MEXICAN PASTA (salsa, dip) with avocado,
  • Mexican SOPA DE LIMA – sour lime soup.

The prepared dishes turned out to be incredibly delicious, aromatic and fully reflects the taste of Mexico.

“Tell me … Who are you?”

On September 24, 2022, workshops on interpersonal communication were conducted under the project “Tell me …” – 2021-2-PL01-KA210-YOU-000051578. The classes were held at the Museum of the People’s Republic of Poland in Ruda Śląska. The theme of the activities was “Tell me … Who are you?”. The circumstances in which the young people lived allowed them to return to the past, which was an ideal opportunity to analyze who the man of the People’s Republic of Poland was and who he is today. The guiding question – “Who am I?” – is related to the concept of human identity, it concerns shaping a positive one
self-evaluation and awareness of positive qualities and strengths. The students listened to the lecture and then worked independently on worksheets and looked for answers to the following questions:

  • Who am I?
  • How do I know who I am?
  • Why am I what I am?

The lectures will be continued …

Ukrainian rarities

Ukrainian cuisine is extremely rich in various flavors due to the influence of culture and religion
and geographical location of Ukraine. It’s a simple kitchen born out of poverty.

For individual dishes, products are used that the vast majority of average Ukrainians can grow or hunt on their own. On Ukrainian tables we find dishes based on flour, mushrooms, fish, vegetables, sauerkraut, meat, cucumbers, and buckwheat. Potatoes, called the second bread, are the basis of most dishes.

On September 30, 2022. seniors prepared Ukrainian specialties during culinary workshops carried out as part of the project “World on a plate” project no.: 2021-2-PL01-ESC30-SOL-000040182.

The main course was a cauldron, i.e. baked potatoes with kefir. The dish that the participants of the workshop really enjoyed were potatoes stuffed in a peasant way.
Ukrainian cuisine workshops ended with a sweet dessert, i.e. Ukrainian cheesecakes.

Recipes of the prepared rarities can be found here

French cuisine workshop

On September 2, 2022, the first culinary workshops after the summer break were organized as part of the “World on a plate” project, project number: 2021-2- PL01-ESC30-SOL-000040182.

During the classes, seniors went on a culinary journey to France, whose cuisine is known and appreciated all over the world. French cuisine is delicate, light, sublime and fanciful. It delights with the variety of flavors, splendor of serving dishes and originality. Although we commonly associate it with frog legs, snails and roasted chestnuts, French cuisine offers excellent fish and seafood, great-quality meat, and phenomenal cheeses.

Under the watchful eye of the trainer, the seniors prepared various dishes in the subgroups, i.e .:

– French crêpes Suzette with oranges,

– Quiche lorraine tart, or Lorraine cake,

– cheese and onion soup.

The workshops ended with tasting the dishes prepared together.

Jiro Ono used to say, “Only by eating excellent dishes, you are able to prepare such dishes.”

We are coming back after holidays!

Holidays are behind us and even though we would like to extend it a bit, unfortunately, none of it… It’s time to get back to the projects! That is why we come back with the project “Colors of Life” – 2021-1-PL01-ESC30-SOL-000036535. We would like to remind you that the project aims to raise awareness among young people about the importance of prevention and taking care of their health. Each month and each color in this project is dedicated to a different disease, as September has started it’s time for Alzheimer’s disease and the main color is purple. Alzheimer’s is a degeneration of the nervous system (neurodegenerative) condition that causes general dementia and develops very slowly. Most often, Alzheimer’s disease affects the elderly who have reached 65 years of age, which is why it is so often associated with lower mental performance due to age. The disease process causes damage to the cerebral cortex, which in turn gives rise to various symptoms, such as:

  • Memory impairment;
  • Lowering general mental activity;
  • Disorientation in space and time;
  • Frequent mood changes;
  • Reluctance to perform any activities;
  • Apathy;

Symptoms vary depending on the stage of the disease.
